OLD ROMSEY PS Site handover from Vic State Government to Macedon Ranges Shire Council

Macedon Ranges Shire Council (MRSC) and the Victorian State Government have signed off on the sale of the former ROMSEY PRIMARY SCHOOL site (140 Main Street Romsey) at a official handover last Wednesday 12 August 2015. This means that MRSC now owns the old site; the sale costing $353,000.

A six year community campaign by GRAAP to provide an All Abilities Park providing more open space for Romsey has been realised. GRAAP members: Raelene Mottram (GRAAP President), Joanne Cooper, CR Ian Ellis and Geoff Neil were in attendance. MRSC CEO Peter Johnston and staff and Cr Graham Hackett were also at the official handover.

MRSC will now work closely with GRAAP Inc and the community to secure funding for the construction of the park and explore opportunities for a long-term lease with Cobaw Community Health (providing community health services in the old building once refurbished).

Other community representatives included Romsey PS Principal Loren Peavey (caretaker of the old site), Romsey Lancefield Rotary Club Inc, Lancefield Romsey Lions Club Inc (Ged McLaughlin), Romsey Region Business and Tourism Association members (RRBATA Inc - Wendie McLaughlin and Dr Greg Powell), Senior Manager Romsey Community Bank (Rod Browning), and Lancefield and Romsey District Historical Society Inc.

Macedon Ranges Labor MP Mary-Anne Thomas, Macedon Ranges Shire Mayor Jenniffer Anderson as well as GRAAP President Raelene Mottram spoke of the significance and importance of community spaces. Macedon Ranges Labor MP Mary-Anne Thomas said that the "project to which I am strongly committed will be a fantastic resource for the Romsey Community".
